The Jagriti Agro Tech team believes that holistic rural development cannot begin until the rural economy develops enough to provide respectable and sustainable livelihood opportunities. Given that agriculture is the primary occupation, successful development in sectors like education, health, and energy is directly or indirectly dependent on the success of the agri-economy.
The name “Jagriti” is inspired by the Jagriti Yatra, which is an annual 9,000 km train journey across the country for 400 social enterprise enthusiasts. The founder, Ashmeet Kapoor, had initially relocated back to India from the US to work in rural electrification. However after traveling across the country through the Yatra, which also provided the opportunity to stay in a village in the Deoria district in eastern Uttar Pradesh, the importance of rethinking agriculture became apparent.
