Organic farming is a combination of best traditional techniques and modern scientific knowledge. Over of the last 50 years, farmers who once practiced organic farming have lost the knowledge due to shift towards chemical-intensive agriculture. The use of appropriate techniques is of utmost importance in order to achieve success in organic agriculture. Chemical agriculture often shows initial high yields, but is ultimately economically and environmentally unsustainable for the small farmer. The conversion to organic requires time and patience, but the long-term benefits serve the farmer and the Earth.
We've developed a demonstration organic farm in Deoria, UP to implement the best practices in the field and highlight the economic viability of organic agriculture. We plan to see it become a local resource, technical training center, and inspiration for farmers to experiment on their own farms.
